Built in 1871, this iron-hulled steamer was designed to carry
passengers and freight between Galveston, Texas, and New York.
She sank in a storm on 24 October 1878 off the tip of Frying Pan
shoals. Her broken and scattered remains now rest in 90' of water
with much of the wreck sanded in. Rediscovered in 1987, many
artifacts and personal effects have since been retrieved by
fanning the sand, including ceramic bottles, medicine bottles,
marbles, porcelain china dolls, and silverware with much more to
be found.
